Is the Game of Thrones prequel confirmed? Fans of the popular HBO fantasy drama series have been lapping up everything about the show and the possibility of having a related spin-off has just been confirmed by HBO.

According to Entertainment Weekly, HBO programming head Casey Bloys has confirmed that the network is in talks with George R.R. Martin about a follow-up series.

Martin is the author of the book series titled A Song of Ice in Fire. The HBO original series Game of Thrones is based on the novels. After the announcement that the wildly popular series will only run for eight seasons, the possibility of having a prequel or any kind of spin-off has been looming on the horizon. After all, The Independent reports that Martin had previously revealed that he has tons of material on the history of the fantasy world that he has created.

While the possibility of a prequel or a spin-off has only been a far-fetched speculation in the past, Bloys’ words have confirmed that the follow-up series is a real possibility. “I would say it’s still kind of preliminary ongoing talks,” he said.

However, he could not confirm if the planned follow-up series would be a prequel or if it would focus on a different timeline or location. Martin revealed that there are millions of stories that are within Game of Thrones. Apart from millions of years of history, there are also stories waiting to be told from the cities of Essos like Old Valyria and the free cities.

“There are areas we are exploring, but I wouldn’t point to any one and say, ‘This is what we’re going to do,” he revealed.
