For The Flash Season 3, there are rumors that the show will follow the Flashpoint comic book arc. This will be a major development for The Flash and will change everything viewers have seen on TV show so far.

In the Season 2 finale of The Flash, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) made the worst decision in his life. After getting devastated by his father’s death in the hands of Zoom (Teddy Sears), Barry went back to the night his mother was killed. This time around, he actually saved his mother’s life.

This event basically alters everything that happened in past two season of the show. In order to follow through with where the sophomore season left off, Flashpoint is almost a necessary recourse. In DC Comics’ Flashpoint, Barry Allen’s decision to save his mother puts him and the other DC characters in an alternate timeline. He wakes up in a completely different world. Although his mother is alive, Barry does not have his speed. The other superheroes and villains, too, do not exist.

Barry seeks the help of Batman in order to find a way to restore his Speed Force. After a lot of convincing, Barry and Batman re-create the accident (in the case of The Flash TV series, the particle accelerator explosion) that gave birth to The Flash. Barry eventually gets his Speed Force back.

If the Flashpoint arc does push through, the Reverse Flash and Zoom will be The Flash’s biggest nemesis. According to Entertainment Weekly, actor Tom Cavanagh will be a regular The Flash cast member in Season 3. With that said, it is likely that Cavanagh will suit up as once again the Reverse Flash.

At the MegaCon event, The Flash star Carlos Valdes teased that “there’s every chance of a Flashpoint paradox.”

“I can say, without a doubt, wherever we go from here, it’s going to be unique and it’s going to be different,” Valdes said, as quoted by Screen Rant. “It’s going to honor the original chronology and the original lore while at the same time providing a new spin on it.”
