“The Flash” movie is moving forward with a new director – Rick Famuyiwa.

Deadline reported that Warner Bros has tapped “Dope” director Rick Famuyiwa to make the DC Universe 2018 movie. According to the site, Famuyiwa “provided a vision” that would resonate on its young audience and that same vision is also compatible with the script Warner Bros has.

According to Cinema Blend, Famuyiwa has earlier teased on Twitter that he might be involved in a DC project soon, but there were no confirmation of his involvement with”The Flash” until now.

The DC film had encountered a setback in April when “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” writer Seth Grahame-Smith dropped out from directing due to “creative differences,” Cinema Blend noted. The movie was supposed to be Grahame-Smith directorial debut.  Famuyiwa will still work on a script written by Grahame-Smith, which is based on a story treatment by “The LEGO Movie” writers/directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

Cinema Blend noted that DC made the right choice of having Famuyiwa at the helm of “The Flash” since he has the expertise of crafting young people, which would help the movie since Barry Allen is one of the youngest superheroes in DCU.  The site added that the protagonist in “Dope” was a “geek” like Barry, who is forensic scientist at the Central City Police Department.

Famuyiwa is best known for his 2015 highly-acclaimed movie, “Dope.” The film won the best editing prize at the Sundance Film Festival. He also recently directed “Confirmation,” an HBO’s original film starring Kerry Washington as Anita Hill, The Hollywood Reporter noted.

Meanwhile, Ezra Miller is the only actor confirmed for “The Flash” movie. Miller will play the lead role, Barry Allen. The Scarlet Speedster already had a cameo in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and is also set to appear in the upcoming “Justice League: Part One.”

Cinema Blend noted that “The Flash” is currently on the process of casting its major roles such as Iris West and Eobard Thawne.

“The Flash” is scheduled to premiere on March 16, 2018.
