“Finding Dory” just premiered last week. But it is already shaping up to be quite the box office hit. Will Disney and Pixar really make a sequel for this movie?

It would not be too hard to see why fans might want to know what happens to Dory and her friends after their adventure in this movie. However, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Andrew Stanton clarified that he does not know if the studio is planning on making another “Finding Nemo” spin-off. However, he personally thinks they have already explored every possible story they can explore in the world Nemo and Dory shared.

“To my knowledge, I think everything that was born of the first movie is wrapped up,” Stanton said.

Nonetheless, before he completely crushed the hearts of fans – both kids and adults alike – he said the final decision will still come from Disney and Pixar. He also said he’s willing to work on a second “Finding Dory” if Disney pushes through with it. “I’ve stopped saying never for anything,” he added. “There are a lot of new characters that get introduced and we’ve broadened the universe for this movie. And again, I’m very used to seeing that world continue to open up from the Toy Story movies… But we’ll see.”

The director is already really thankful, though, for the chance to work with these characters again. “I really do feel like this was the missing piece, emotionally, for the first movie,” Stanton explained.

Meanwhile, Ellen DeGeneres, who voiced Dory, wants viewers to get a specific message from their film. “We have to protect our oceans,” she told Yahoo Movies. “It’s what [‘Finding Dory’] is about: It’s about rehabilitation and putting them back in the ocean… Hopefully that discussion starts with this film, because we really need to protect that environment.”
