Cristiano Ronaldo is better than Lionel Messi. The debate has finally been settled by EA Sports. The player ratings have come out ahead of the FIFA 17 release date, and the Real Madrid star edged out his rival for the first time since 2009.

EA Sports, the developer behind the highly popular football game series, is gearing up for the FIFA 17 release date. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the player ratings, and the top 50 list has just been published on the company’s official website.

The top two spots were clearly going to be owned by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. However, for the first time in seven years, the anticipation was intense. This is due to the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo had a spectacular season and looked poised to steal the top spot. This has finally been confirmed, and with a 94 player rating, the Portugal captain took the crown.

Lionel Messi did not fall far behind. He sits at second place with a 93 rating. Messi’s FC Barcelona teammate Neymar Jr. managed to secure the third spot with a 92 rating. The top four spots were swept by Spanish La Liga players, with Luis Suarez claiming fourth place, also with a 92 rating.

German National Team goalkeeper Manuel Neuer competes the top 5 with a joint 92 rating with Neymar and Suarez. Real Madrid contributes another player in the form of Gareth Bale in sixth position.

It comes as no surprise that Cristiano Ronaldo claimed the top spot in the FIFA 17 player ratings. Following a successful season, Ronaldo led Portugal to the Euro 2016 title despite suffering an injury in the final match. Back in May, Ronaldo was also part of the team that helped Real Madrid to an eleventh UEFA Champions League trophy. He was also declared Europe’s Best Player for the 2015/16 season, edging out Gareth Bale and Antoine Griezmann.
