Former Miss Universe owner Donald Trump speaks up about the embarrassing mix up during the coronation of Miss Universe Sunday night.

Trump tweeted: “Very sad what happened last night at the Miss Universe Pageant. I sold it 6 months ago for a record price. This would never have happened!”

Host Steve Harvey made the biggest blunder on television after he accidentally crowned Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the new Miss Universe. He later had to apologize and then announce the real winner – Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach. Even showing the results card and asking the crowd not to blame the ladies, because it was his fault.

Harvey apologized to Miss Philippines, Miss Colombia, and to the public after the show.

In an interview with NBC “TODAY,” Trump suggested that it would be “very cool” to have the Miss Universe crown be shared between the winner and runner-up in the wake of the incident in a “beautiful ceremony.”

He also stood up for Harvey, saying: “Steve Harvey is a great guy … things happen, it’s live television,” and added that the “the new owners are tremendous.”

The GOP presidential candidate sold the rights to the pageant in September following backlash over his comments criticizing undocumented immigrants from Mexico as “criminals” and “rapists”.

Meanwhile, Wurtzbach admitted to Entertainment Tonight that she has not spoken to Gutierrez after the chaos.

“No, because she was crying and then there was a crowd around her, the girls who were comforting her. I was going to go to her — I was actually very close to her already, but then I decided that maybe it was bad timing to do it now, to apologize to her for what happened, so maybe I’ll do that in the future,” Wurtzbach said.

Washington Post quoted teary Miss Colombia saying at the backstage after the coronation: “Everything happens for a reason, so I’m happy.”
