British actress Pearl Mackie is “Doctor Who” Peter Capaldi’s new companion. The actress, who was a part of “Doctors” and “Svengali,” describes her character Bill as a “cool, strong, sharp person with little bit of geekiness thrown in.”
Pearl Mackie is happy to be part of the “Doctor Who” team. The actress, who plays Peter Capaldi’s new companion named Bill, says she is excited to join the show. The team has filmed a few scenes with a Dalek already as well as the new trailer.
Radio Times explains that Mackie’s background in stage combat is proving handy when it comes to warding off “Doctor Who” monsters. “I always loved stage combat at drama school so I can’t wait to get on set and kick some evil monsters into the next dimension!” said Mackie.
From the looks of it, Bill seems to be one fierce partner and Mackie couldn’t agree more. She fell in love with the character upon reading the script. “Reading the script at the audition I thought Bill was wicked. Fantastically written, cool, strong, sharp, a little bit vulnerable with a bit of geekiness thrown in – I can’t wait to bring her to life, and to see how she develops through the series,” she added.
Doctor Who Watch reveals that Mackie was one of the seventy names being considered for the role. However, when it came to the auditions, the actress arrived fully formed with a strong personality and a strong sense of herself. Another Radio Times report points that when it came to the final five, it all depended on how Mackie and Capaldi interacted with each other.
“It’s that thing that’s always impossible to put your finger on: chemistry,” said Andy Pryor. “You can’t predict that until you get them in the room together. When we did it became evident very quickly that they had a spark that was new and exciting and fresh.”
