The first “Doctor Strange” trailer has just dropped. Could it be one of Marvel’s darkest, strangest and most trippy movies yet?
According to Entertainment Weekly, the film’s star Benedict Cumberbatch himself unveiled the trailer on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The two-minute clip showed Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, and it invites him (as well as the audience) to”forget everything that you think you know.”
Actress Tilda Swinton also made an appearance in the trailer as Strange’s mentor, the Ancient One. “You’re a man looking at the world through a keyhole,” she was shown telling Strange. “You’ve spent your life trying to widen it. Your work saved the lives of thousands. What if I told you that reality is one of many?” This might be the first Marvel movie to attempt to explore the existence of other “realities.” According to Collider, the movie’s director Scott Derrickson even called it a “mind trip action film” that hopes to “bend people’s minds.”
What else could the Doctor Strange trailer mean for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole? Movie Pilot pointed out something “fantastic” the Sorcerer Supreme can do for the rest of MCU. Not only can Doctor Strange travel through time and space. He can travel through dimensions, too. And his presence can mean something big for fans of past Spider-Man actors. Spider-Man has been played by three different actors in recent years, namely Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland. Movie Pilot speculates that, with Doctor Strange in the picture, it might now be possible for all three Spider-Man versions to co-exist in the MCU. This, however, has yet to be confirmed.
“Doctor Strange” is set to hit theatres on November 4.
Cumberbatch is also set to join the cast of the 2019 movie “Captain Marvel.”
