Actor Jon Bernthal, who has been cast as Frank Castle aka The Punisher in Season 2 of Netflix’s critically acclaimed series “Daredevil,” has released a photo and a video of his character in full Punisher gear, shooting an unseen target from the rooftops.

Bernthal made the two consecutive posts on his Instagram account; one a video and the other a still image.

It is not clear who the antihero is shooting at from the rooftop. However, there may be a clue. In the first official trailer for Season 2, we see Frank Castle aiming through his viewfinder to a target from a higher vantage point. We also see some vehicle in a car park blowing up. This may indeed be the very scene teased by Bernthal on his social media account. However, this is not clear. He could very well be taking aim at an unsuspecting criminal roaming about. In fact, there appeared another scene in the trailer where a man in the back seat of a car was being targeted by the Punisher.

One batch. Two batch. Penny and dime.

Though Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and The Punisher are both vigilantes avenging crimes in society, the latter actually kills his victims so that their negative influence on society ends once and for all. This is a point made by Frank Castle in the trailer where he is heard telling Matt Murdoch’s Daredevil that “You hit ‘em and they get back up. I hit ‘em and they stay down!” When Murdoch questions him “Why are you doing this?” Punisher answers “Because I think you’re a half measure. I think you’re a man who can’t finish the job. I think that you’re a coward!” Castle then adds the haunting line “You know you are one bad day from being me!”

It is Daredevil’s “no killing” policy that separates him from The Punisher, whose wife and two children, as we know from the comics, were killed by the mob during a shootout in New York City’s Central park. This leads him to engage in a one-man war against the mob and criminals in general.

It will be interesting to see how ‘the man without fear’ handles The Punisher, who is not only an impediment to justice for Murdoch but also a threat to his own morals.

“Daredevil” Season 2, episode 1 entitled “Bang” will air on March 18. Elodie Yung will play Elektra in the forthcoming season.
