“Dancing With the Stars” professional dancer Mark Ballas got a terrible back injury during Sunday rehearsals with partner, UFC fighter Paige VanZant. Sources report that he might need to sit the Monday, March 28 show out.
“My back just pinched funny. I’m hurting,” said Ballas. “I’m in trouble,” conveyed People.
Ballas came on the show to give an update on his physical condition. He told that he’d gone in for tests and was hopeful. Ballas further expressed, “Just to be safe, we’re going to do everything smoothed out, but I’m hopeful I’ll be back,” reveals People.
Partner Paige is also quite concerned about Ballas’ health. She sounds really optimistic when she told after last Monday’s “Dancing With the Stars” premiere: “Mark has been so supportive and just a lot of fun to work with.”
As an alternate, VanZant has been rehearsing with Alan Bernsten. Alan is a former contestant of “So You Think You Can Dance” and current member of the “Dancing With the Stars” troupe.
According to Cleveland, Ballas, 29, has been associated with the reality dancing competition show since Season 5, and has also won the popular Mirror Ball Trophy twice in Seasons 6 and 8 with his respective partners, Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi and Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson. Ballas joined the last season with actress Alexa PenaVega and came in sixth place. He was injured his shoulder in the past, too, while he was partnered with Candace Cameron Bure in season 18. They went on to place third in their competition.
This isn’t the first injury to plague season 22 of the dance competition series. We have seen celebrity dancer Nyle DiMarco was injured during rehearsals last week. His cut was a severe one that required stitches. However, he could now be able to perform.
“Dancing With The Stars” show timing every Mondays (8 p.m. ET) on ABC.
