The second trailer for “The Huntsman: Winters War” is out and it has the two Queens fighting each other.
Both from the “Snow White and the Huntsman,” Charlize Theron returns as the Evil Queen Ravenna as well as Chris Hemsworth as Eric the Huntsman. As reported in Variety, they will be joined in by Emily Blunt as Freya the Ice Queen and Jessica Chastain as Sara the Warrior.
At first look, the dark fantasy film may appear as a sequel but the narration in the new trailer suggests that it’s going to be a prequel with its opening “If it’s the Snow White tale you’re looking for, discover the story that came before.” Watch more of the trailer for the dark take on the children’s fairy tale below:
The revealed scenes tell of the story of Ravenna killing her sister Freya’s infant as an answer to a prophecy that the child will surpass the evil queen’s beauty. Due to the loss of her baby, Freya isolated herself in an ice kingdom and devoted her frustrations of raising a child to build an army. From that army, Eric and Sara trained together to become the Ice Queen’s greatest soldiers. Conflict ensues when both Hemsworth and Chastain’s characters fell in love with each other despite orders from the Ice Queen to forbid such. The resulting circumstances lead to what seems to be a three-way battle between the Evil Queen, The Ice Queen and The Huntsman. Also worthy of note is the Ice Queen riding a polar bear, as made mention by SlashFilm.
Coming back from “Snow White and the Huntsman” is Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, formerly the fantasy epic film’s visual effects supervisor, who is now director of Winter’s War. The sequel’s producer is Joe Roth who also produced other large films with evil queens “Alice in Wonderland” and “Maleficent.”
Find out who will win the war as “The Huntsman: Winter’s War” will break out in theatres on April 22.
