Will Better Call Saul Season 3 and Breaking Bad finally coalesce? This seems to be the probing question as the series heads to its junior offering.
The events in Better Call Saul take place about six years before Saul Goodman was to meet Walter White. He was still known as Jimmy McGill, described as a small-time lawyer who is hustling for every case in order to make ends meet. The series will explain how Bob Oderkirk’s character developed into a major operator.
In an interview with Variety, Bob Odenkirk was asked what he would like to happen in Better Call Saul Season 3 and he replied that he really would like to see Mike Ehrmantraut and Jimmy McGill banter around while sitting in a tree or a parking attendant’s booth.
“It’s just always fun. It makes me laugh. It’s a great burst of energy to be working with [Jonathan] Banks like that. I have crazy ideas. I’d love to see some of Saul during the years of ‘Breaking Bad,’” he said.
Mike Ehrmantraut, of course, is a fan favorite of Breaking Bad who has donned on more hats than most of the other characters in the hit series. From mobster, police officer to drug dealer. He’s also Saul Goodman’s private investigator and troubleshooter.
The speculation about the timeline between Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad converging has been going on since 2014. Showrunner Peter Gould also didn’t rule out the report in an interview with the New York Daily News. He said the flexible timeline of the spinoff allows them to be creative with their storytelling, including bringing back the characters that have died in Breaking Bad.
“Perhaps some of it takes place before Breaking Bad, during Breaking Bad, and after Breaking Bad,” he added.
Does that mean people will see Skinny Pete and Badger again, this time as young men in Better Call Saul Season 3? That would be a treat for fans, for sure.
