“Captain America: Civil War” is basically an Avengers movie with all the main MCU characters introduced with Black Panther recently joining the team. Now, Spider-Man has been added as well. “Civil War” and “Avengers: Infinity War” directors Anthony and Joe Russo have revealed that more characters are set to appear in the “Infinity War” movies.
“New characters are going to appear in Avengers: Infinity War. It’s a big sprawling ambitious movie, it’s about as ambitious as movies get and it should be, and the title alone indicates that there will be an incredible scape (sic) and scope to it,” Russo said to Forbes.
His brother and co-director, Anthony Russo added “It is intended to be the entire culmination of the Marvel cinematic universe and, in many ways, the end of that part of it. But we don’t even have the first draft in on that script yet; we’re still in the outline phase. It’s hard not to talk about it too specifically now only because of spoilers but also because we’re still figuring it out.”
Morning Ledger had reported earlier that “Avengers: Infinity War” will include 68 Marvel comics characters, an overwhelming number for a superhero film. It’s difficult to fathom how each character will get their due importance. However, this aspect is not being ignored.
“We love ensemble storytelling. If you look at ‘Welcome to Collinwood,’ if you look at our TV work like ‘Arrested Development and Community’ and ‘Happy Endings,’ you can see that. We like stories that you can revisit multiple times and there is something about ensembles that allows you to approach the different characters’ points of view at different times and we find that process fun. Everyone has a different favorite character so we know that there will be people in the theater for just that character even if that character has a small role in the movie. Because of that we try to walk through the story from every character’s point of view no matter how large or small their role, just so we’re understanding where they’re coming from in the movie and making sure we fill out their role as much as we can and having as much fun with the character as we can,” Anthony Russo told Forbes.
It’s not just the heroes, but there will be more than one main villain in the “Infinity War” movies. More villains will likely appear alongside Thanos (Josh Brolin).
“He [Thanos] was always meant to be the puppet-master until he was done doing that, and then he’ll be the big villain they face off with. Not solely – I’m sure there’ll be plenty more [villains] in that monstrous epic film because one thing Marvel doesn’t do is string a story out into two movies that shouldn’t be two movies. They’ll give you two big movies. I feel like we got two movies into this one!” Joss Whedon told Kyle Buchanan of Vulture regarding the two-part “Avengers: Infinity War.”
