New Zealand will host Australia in the 2nd Test match of the Trans-Tasman test series at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch starting this Saturday, Feb. 20-24. The game will be aired live at 10:30 AM local time and 9:30 PM GMT.
Australia will be looking to gain the top spot in the Test rankings after a terrific win in the first test match. Steve Smith’s men thumped the hosts by an innings and 52 runs after posing a mammoth first inning total in Wellington.
As per the abc.net.au, the Australian squad for the upcoming test match was revealed by Captain Steve Smith. James Pattinson has been recalled to lead the attack in Christchurch after Peter Siddle suffered a career threatening injury.
“Patto obviously wasn’t right for that first test,” Smith said. “He’s been working hard since.
“He’s bowled a lot in the nets and we’re all confident he’ll get through this next Test match, hopefully he can have a big impact for us.”
Australia will have to either win or at least draw the 2nd test match if they are to retain the top spot in the ICC Test rankings.
Meanwhile, ESPN reports state that New Zealand Skipper Brendon McCullum will be playing his last test match of his career. It is indeed an emotional moment for him as well as the team.
The New Zealand squad will remain somewhat unchanged in the upcoming clash.
“I think there was a lot of emotion in this one [in Wellington] to be honest,” fast bowler Trent Boult said on Wednesday. “But his last one – it’s going to be pretty sad, to be honest. Everyone has played with him for that long and he’s good mates with everyone in the team. We’re all looking forward to running out with him for the last time.”
