The villain Aquaman will have to face off in his upcoming solo movie will be the most “unique” villain ever. This, director James Wan recently revealed.
In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, the director teased the identity the king of Atlantis will have to fight in his movie. “I got to say… one thing I love about the Aquaman world is all the really different, really interesting characters. They are interesting characters, including the villains,” Wan said. However, he refused to give out a name. “I’m not going to tell you which villains I’m going to play with! But they’re super cool,” he hinted. “They’re very larger than life, but they’re unique.”
The director added that DC’s version of Atlantis has always been pretty unique. This, he said, would be his movie’s edge over other films. “That’s what I’ll speak to – the uniqueness of the Aquaman world. There are so many superhero movies now… I don’t want to make a superhero movie now for the sake of doing it,” he explained. “But there’s something unique to the world of Aquaman. There’s a reason why they’ve never made a movie about this until now…technology has never allowed us to tackle something this complicated. And so because of that, it feels like something different…that uniqueness is what I’m excited about.”
In a separate report, Cinema Blend also gave Wan a chance to explain the rumored shifts in the DC Extended Universe. “To be honest, it’s not as dramatic as the press is making it out to be,” the director told Cinema Blend. “Right now I’m seeing everything as more an outsider looking into this box…I think it’s great. Geoff Johns is super talented, super smart. Part of what got me excited about the Aquaman character is his re-envisioning of Aquaman, the character…that’s super exciting.”
