Police have unveiled a tape which contained the confession of the rapists and murderers of beauty pageant winner Anita Cobby.
Cobby’s murder has been one of the most shocking crimes in the history of Australia. Convicts John Travers and Michael Murdoch confessed in the recording that they were two of the five people who participated in the brutal gang rape and murder of the 26-year-old Australian nurse.
“Seven News Investigates: Anita Cobby: You Thought You Knew It All” aired the dramatised version of the entire event in which Travers’ aunt agreed to be part of the police and detectives’ plan of trapping the criminals. Her identity has been kept secret as “Miss X,” with a planted microphone in her bra and she visited the cell where the culprits were in custody.
“I don’t know how to put it, did you have sex with her?” she asked Travers in the recording as quoted by the 9News.
“Yeah,” he replied.
“Did anybody else?” she asked.
“All of them,” he said.
“We were all drunk and she’d f—ing seen all of us. I said, ‘she’s got to be done,’ and they said ‘do your thing.’ So I just cut her.”
The second recording was played for the first time in public. In the recording, it is heard that Miss X apologised to Murdoch and his wife. “Mick, I’m sorry, I saw John today. He told me everything. I know everything all right, about what happened. I know it all.”
Travers’ aunt bravely took part in the investigation. When she was asked why she was fighting in favour of Cobby, she said no lady should suffer from what the nurse suffered.
News.com.au reported that the Seven News also featured an interview with the victim’s husband John Cobby for the first time during the show. Cobby’s husband turned into a drug addict after her death and even now he doesn’t have that courage to go through the police reports on her death
