5SOS fans might be surprised to know that Michael Clifford and Ashton Irwin allegedly admitted that they got a “crush” on One Direction. Relax, though, because what they said is that they are grateful to the British boy band.

Speaking to MYX Philippines, the rock quartet recalled their journey as a “garage band” that used to play in small time gigs until One Direction gave them the opportunity to be one of their front acts during their 2013 headliner concert. Since then, the boys from the Land Down Under became phenomenal, hence, rocking their second global tour “Sounds Live Feels Live.”

“They gave us a huge platform to work from. They put us on their tour originally in 2013 when we had no music released!” Clifford explained, quotes Unreality TV. “We had one little EP, but it was nothing great… it wasn’t rockin’. They gave us this massive platform and trusted we would bring it.”

More than that, Irwin explained that One Direction gave them the motivation to reach where they are now. “They chose the right dudes. We really took that opportunity by the kahunas,” the drummer exclaimed. “When you take four guys like us, and we aspire to be a big band and touch a lot of people, we’re determined. You give us a stage and we’re going to do our best with it.”

“When you take four guys like us, and we aspire to be a big band and touch a lot of people, we’re determined. You give us a stage and we’re going to do our best with it,” Irwin added. The results are quite obvious, given that the band’s albums became hits, bringing them to travel across major continents to give thanks to their supporters.

As for the 5SOS “Sounds Live Feels Live” tour, Irwin and Clifford, along with Luke Hemmings and Calum Hood are currently invading the United Kingdom. Those who would like to buy tickets can go to the 5SOS Live website. Check out the rest of the tour dates and venues below.
