Apple’s new iOS 9.3 is finally here and it is now available for download. It offers several new features for iPhone and iPad.
The new iPhone SE and 9.7-inch iPad Pro will come with iOS 9.3 preinstalled. Owners of the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, and 6S Plus should get an update alert to install the new OS, Wired noted.
Here are 10 best iOS 9.3 tips that you should read before installing the update on your smartphone.
When the update is available, Apple will send a notification to your phone. You can also check your Settings app to see if there’s a small red alert badge. Once you have downloaded the update, your phone will have to restart.
2. Always backup data
It’s good to make sure that all your important data don’t go away along with your old OS. You can backup via iTunes or iCloud.
3. Make some space
You may be prompted to clear space to make room for the update. Your phone will give you the option to temporarily delete apps and reinstall them after the update, or you can make room by deleting files manually.
4. Schedule update later
If you cannot spare time for installing the update now, you can opt to install the software later. iPhones give the option to install overnight by just leaving your device plugged into a charger before going to bed or to remind you later.
5. Security upgrade
Apple is also adding an extra layer of security on its Notes app and adding some multi-user support for iOS. Notes can now be password protected and unlocked using Touch ID, The Verge noted.
This is the most notable addition to the latest Apple OS. The new Night Shift feature shifts the color temperature of the display based on the time and location of your device, The Verge wrote.
7. More shortcuts
iOS 9.3 added smaller improvements. On the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, there are new 3D Touch shortcuts for the Weather, Settings, Health, App Store, iTunes Store and Compass apps. You can also duplicate photos in the Photos app and Siri now supports Hebrew, Finish and Malay, CNET wrote.
8. Security bug
According to Wired, the latest Apple OS fixes a critical security flaw in iMessages. Apple’s software updates almost always fix some security bugs, which is why it is actually really important to use the latest version, Wired added.
9. Other updates
iOS 9.3 also offers recommendations based on your location for Apple’s in-car helper CarPlay, Health app, and new Classroom app that is useful for teachers in delivering lesson plans and tracking their student’s progress.
10. Wi-Fi calling and Apple Music
Wi-Fi calling feature finally comes to Verison iPhone users in the US. According to 9to5 Mac, the latest version of the iOS also brings in tweaks for Apple Music and also allows for PDF syncing with iCloud for iBooks, amongst other Apple devices.
