One Direction fans were in despair when Zayn Malik parted ways with One Direction almost a year ago. Much to their surprise, the young hunk pursued a solo career contrary to his reason wanting to be a “normal 22-year old.” Hence, Directioners may have wiped the tears from their eyes now that he proved to be as successful as the quartet.
Who could have thought that he will outshine his former group? The former 1D member allegedly beat the lads in all music charts.
According to NME, the solo artist, who wants to be known simply as “Zayn,” beats every One Direction single with his latest song, “Pillowtalk.” Zayn has made US chart history by being the first UK artist to enter the North American charts straight at the top with a newly released single.
Moreover, MTV News noted earlier that Zayn’s “Pillowtalk” debuted at No. 1 in Hot Billboard 100 – an achievement that the One Direction was never able to reach in the United States.
Notably, the pop quartet almost took the top spot with “Best Song Ever..” Meanwhile, the “Malik-less” single, “‘Drag Me Down,” claimed the No. 3 spot in August last year.
In Europe alone, Zayn’s hit single slammed Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself” in Irish charts last week.
His victory in the charts has been written all over the news, but Zayn is not done yet. The singer himself teases fans by posting a short clip with the acoustic version of the triumphant single. He captioned the video with a hashtag #livingroomsessions, which suggests that there will be more unplugged versions of his songs.
Zayn’s first album, “Mind of Mine,” will be out in music stores on March 25.
As for One Direction, the boys have been busy with their own lives after the New Year. Harry Styles and Liam Payne are rumoured to be pursuing solo careers as well. Niall Horan asked Shawn Mendes about songwriting while Louis Tomlinson is enjoying his fatherhood with Briana Jungwirth’s baby.
