Vin Diesel’s image as the action king of sorts isn’t the only factor contributing to the buzz surrounding the “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.” As is natural, additions to the cast are garnering a big share in the limelight.

Earlier report on Screen Rant revealed that Jet Li had been zeroed in to be a part of all the action with “xXx:3.” The star had been cast as the film’s villain, which didn’t fail to create headlines. But, according to a recent report on TwitchFilm, it appears that there have been some changes in the cast. Jet Li has dropped the project and role has been taken on by martial-arts superstar Donnie Yen. The reason for Jet Li leaving the project hasn’t been disclosed.

Now, Yen will be stepping into the shoes of the villain in the movie, Xiang. Yen happens to be a big superstar in Hong Kong. This 52 year-old actor has starred in “Once Upon a Time in China 2,” which proved to be a major success. He also made his presence felt in academy-award nominated movie, “Hero.”

ScreenRant describes his character in “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” as “an “alpha warrior,” who has assembled a team of mercenaries to locate and gain control of a famous weapon called Pandora’ Box. And, naturally so, they run into a team of secret agents led by Diesel. Directed by D.J. Caruso, the movie is expected to be shot in different locations across the globe. With Diesel on board, there is no denying that the action sequences against exquisite backdrops will excite the fans.

The cast of “XXX: The Return of Xander Cage” also includes Tony Jaa, Jet Li, Nina Dobrev, Deepika Padukone (Bollywood star) and Ruby Rose. The movie will also witness Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role of Agent Augustus Eugene Gibbons, as seen in the first installment.
