Mystique has been such a central character in recent “X-Men” movies. The mutant shape shifter has even emerged as a favorite for some fans. Given this, it’s entirely possible for a Mystique solo movie to be made soon.

Or, at least, according to IGN, “X-Men: Apocalypse” director Bryan Singer thinks she deserves to get her own spin-off. “I think [Mystique’s] right for [a standalone],” he said. “She has this different view of the world… [it] opens up a lot of avenues.” However, Fox has yet to confirm if they will green light this project.

Singer is not the only “X-Men” collaborator who likes the idea of giving Mystique her very own film, though. As early as 2014, producer Lauren Shuler Donner has already discussed the possible movie. “I love what Jennifer Lawrence has done [with the character],” she told Entertainment Weekly. “I feel like because she is in such a crowded ensemble, there’s so much more opportunity if you were to follow her solo.”

That same EW interview from two years ago has also proven to be quite prophetic. “The current people who run Fox understand, embrace [spin-offs], and we’re going to do right by it. I’d like to do Gambit. I’d like to do Deadpool. We’ll see,” Donner was quoted as saying. Deadpool has since gotten his very own movie. He’s even getting a sequel for it next year. Gambit, on the other hand, has yet to appear on the big screen for a solo spin-off. But his movie is already in the works. Could Mystique be next?

Meanwhile, Movie Pilot suggested that Fox should explore espionage as a theme for the Mystique solo movie. “This would be an opportunity for some serious fun,” the film blog said. “Mystique would easily become the ultimate spy, slipping past her enemies with ease.”
