For the first time ever, “The X Factor” Australia had the week called “Judges Unleashed” wherein the contestants had no theme nor restrictions in their song choices in the Top 5 Live Shows Performances.
The top 5 remaining contestants namely Cyrus Villanueva, Mahalia Simpson, Louise Adams, Jess & Matt and Big T along with their “X Factor” mentors had the freedom to perform the song choice, Yahoo 7 wrote.
Top 5 Performances:
Cyrus Villanueva sang “Love Me Like You Do” by Ellie Goulding (chosen by Chris Isaak)
Mahalia Simpson sang “I Try” by Macy Gray (chosen by Danii Minogue)
Jesse and Matt sang “You’re The One I Want” by Olivia Newton and John Travolta (chosen by Guy Sebastian)
Louise Adams sang “I Put A Spell On You” by Annie Lenox (chosen by James Blunt)
Big T sang “All Of Me” by John Legend (chosen by Chris Isaak)
The Morning Bulletin mentioned that “X Factor” judge Guy Sebastian surprised the audience with his odd song choice from the movie, “Grease.”
Guy admitted during the show, “You’re right, it is a bit random.”
Jesse & Matt got a standing ovation and their rendition of the song even got into the iTunes Top 10. “X Factor” judge Danii told Jesse & Matt, “You made it look easy; that was so difficult that arrangement. You were equally shining in that in a way we haven’t seen before.”
Louise Adams gave a “powerful rendition” which made Danii note that her performance was grand final material. Guy told the crowd that she deserves a spot in the Top 3.
Cyrus Villanueva played the piano as he sang to “Love Me Like You Do.” His mentor, Chris Isaak told him, “I’m really happy you took the hard way and not the easy way.”
The site mentioned that Big T was finally back in the game after a mishap last week. Guy called him a “soulful brother” and gave him some advice when he’s singing the high notes.
In some moments, it was Mahlia who sounded off tune. Guy told her that it was not her best performance. With her performance, The Daily Telegraph mentioned that Mahlia could likely be in the bottom two for the fourth time.
Meanwhile, 2014 “X Factor” winner 16-year-old Marlisa Punzalan surprised the audience with her comeback. The Filipino descent sang her new single, “Forever Young.”
