World Wrestling Entertainment’s (WWE) Hall of Fame is a special event established in 1993 that takes place every year as part of Wrestlemania to honour professional wrestlers as well as celebrities. Past and present wrestlers share their stories, crack jokes and utter those infamous one-liners. WrestleMania 32‘s Hall of Fame event, which took place on 2 April, was equally exciting for the fans.
Rapper Snoop Dogg was the celebrity inductee into WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2016. His cousin, Sasha Banks, popularly known as “The Boss,” is a professional wrestler for WWE. He began his speech by giving a “shout out” to his cousin. “Sasha Banks the legit boss,” he called her while she blushed and smiled amidst applause.
The rapper reminisced about taking his cousin to WrestleMania 24 in Orlando. “She was just a young little teenager and I took her around to meet everybody that she wanted to meet and you could just see her face light up. You could tell that’s where she belonged; this is where she wanted to be,” Snoop Dogg said. “I mean, I don’t even know what to say to express how great this feels as a family member to see my little cousin fighting for it all tomorrow. Love you Sasha,” a visibly emotional Snoop Dogg said. He ended his speech with a nice rap song.
The professional wrestlers inducted into this year’s Hall of Fame were The Godfather, Jacqueline, The Big Boss Man, The Fabulous Freebirds and Sting. Now Sting, whose real name is Steve Borden, announced his retirement. “On this very night, at this very moment, I’m going to finish my career under the WWE umbrella and I’m so proud of that. I am officially going to retire tonight,” he said, before teasing “I just want you to know this isn’t goodbye, it’s just see you later.”
Bradshaw and Faarooq, better known as Acolytes Protection Agency (APA), took to the stage to induct Charles “The Godfather” Wright into the Hall of fame and entertained the audience with embarrassing tales of past. Also, The Godfather came to the stage with his ho train.
Kalisto was his usual wrestler self as he came wearing a gold luchador mask. Thankfully, he wore a suit. What was extra cute was that his wife Abigail also wore a similar black mask.
Vader introduced Stan Hansen as the latter was inducted as well. Though Vader talked about Hansen’s abnormal heart rates, fans would have been most probably recalling the All Japan Pro Wrestling event when Vader’s left eye popped out of its socket.
Rob Van Dam (RVD), who made a surprise appearance this year, said that “I am here for everybody. But specifically I want to see my boy, The Godfather get inducted. He’s a good friend of mine.” He added that at the moment he was “following the currents of life, going with the flow.” He also said that “As far as work goes, currently I do like as little as possible.”
Some of the interviews can be seen on WWE’s YouTube channel.
