Wayne Rooney might be rethinking his stay at Manchester United and could possibly join WWE Raw as he challenged 250 pound WWE fighter Wade Barret to a FIGHT in front of thousands of wrestling fans.
According to Mirror UK, the England Captain was in the front row at the WWE Raw show at Manchester Arena when Preston-born Wade Barrett, took the mic and started goading Rooney. Rooney seemed up and ready to a fight after a light-hearted ‘trash talk’ during the US wrestling extravaganza.
Barrett said, “In this ring are two men who can be easily be described as a championship material. Which is, of course, more than can be said of Wayne Rooney and Manchester United.”
The 6ft 7ins wrestler invited Rooney, who was with his six year old son, Kai, on the stage but added, “I would hate for your little boy to have to watch his own father fail. He gets to experience that every single time you step on a football pitch.”
Things got pretty heated up by then and “The rant prompted Rooney to rise from his chair and challenge the one-time bare knuckle boxer Barrett to a fight. And moments later the pair came to blows with Rooney landing a thumping slap across the wrestler’s face,” the Daily Mail UK reported.
The Daily Mail UK wrote that the Manchester United and England captain attended the “Raw show along with Old Trafford No 2 Ryan Giggs and former team-mate, now at West Bromwich Albion, Darren Fletcher. The trio were pictured backstage before the event, smiling alongside former World Wrestling Entertainment champion John Bradfield Layfield.”
Of course the whole incident was a scripted one and Rooney perfectly played his part. A WWE source said, “It was brilliant. Wayne was in great spirits before the event and he happily agreed to take part in the stunt with Wade Barrett. The fans absolutely loved it and I’m sure his son Kai would have enjoyed it too.”
