Last Monday’s episode of WWE Raw is proof that wrestling is as real as any sport. John Cena broke his nose on national TV after receiving a knee to the face.
While many criticize the WWE as a telenovela for men, Monday’s episode proved that the wrestling series is real and its fighter do get hurt. In a match between reigning WWE United States champion John Cena and WWE Heavyweight champ Seth Rollin, Cena broke his nose after after Rollins sent a knee to his face.
Photos and clips of the incident quickly made its way online, and in one photo posted by Anthony DiMoro of SportsRants.com on Twitter, Cena’s deformed nose was clearly shown.
“John Cena’s nose is proof that pro wrestling is no joke,” the photo was captioned.

Fansided noted that the blood rushing down Cena’s face was a clear indication that the injury was serious, “but the close-up on Cena’s swollen, deformed nose confirmed that it was pretty badly broken.” Impressively though, the Hustler, Loyalty, Respect fighter fought through the pain and ultimately ended the fight victorious, defending his US Championship belt against Rollins. “If history has taught us anything, it’s that Cena can overcome any odds,” Bleacher Report wrote.
As for the severity of the injury, WWE physician, Dr. Steve Daquino, confirmed that Cena suffered a “displacement” in his nose.
“As you can see on television tonight, John suffered from a nasal fraction. He’s got quite a bit of displacement, so we sent him over to the local emergency room so he can be evaluated by the ears, nose and throat doctor who’s on call tonight and see what can be done to properly repair it,” Daquino said in a statement.
While it may take some time before The Champ returns to the ring, the incident only adds hype to an expected John Cena vs Seth Rollins face off at WWE SummerSlam 2015 in August.
