The attacks and counter-attacks taking place from time to time have made Turkey raise its concern over World War 3 possibilities.
Russian military advancements made Turkish authorities believe that the US and Russia war seems “inevitable”. Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus said that the conflict between the two nations over Syria has put the world under the threat of a large global war. Recently, while the US deployed a new and more developed missile system, Russia launched two nuclear missiles, including the Topol missile, which is the fastest of all military missiles.
“If this proxy war continues, after this, let me be clear, America and Russia will come to a point of war,” the deputy PM said in an interview. Turkey has remained in favor of protests against Syrian President Bashar-al-Assad and always wanted him to step down. In doing so, the US and the UK have always supported Turkey while Russia has been a firm supporter of the president. Russia President Vladimir Putin has always indicated his support for al-Assad.
The tensions between the states escalated with the US alleging Russia of “war crimes” in Syria via frequent hacking attacks. The two nations have hardly shown signs of good relations since the Cold War onwards. However, the latest tensions have reached a limit same as that of the Cold War period. US State Secretary John Kerry called for an investigation into the “war crime” matter in Syria as the nation believed Moscow was involved.
In early 2016, the US positioned its nuclear weapons in Turkey to Romania following frequent threats from Iran. However, Putin claimed that the Americans lied to them regarding the positioning of their missiles. He also said that the missiles are loaded with “anti-missiles” that can destroy areas up to 500 kilometers.
“But we know that technologies advance. We even know in which year the Americans will accomplish a new missile, which will be able to penetrate distances of up to 1000km, and then even further,” Putin added referring to US’s World War 3 preparations as quoted by Express UK. “And from that moment on they will be able to directly threaten Russia’s nuclear potential.”
“We know year by year what’s going to happen and they know that we know. It’s only you that they tell tales to, and you spread it to the citizens of your countries.”
