The Adelaide Oval is all set to host the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifier between the Socceroos and Tajikistan next year. Coach Ange Postecoglou will be announcing the news soon. Meanwile, Tajikistan has already posted the information on its official website.
“The Socceroos represent all Australians so it is important we give fans from all over the country the opportunity to watch the team play these World Cup qualifiers,” coach Ange Postecoglou said in a statement.
The Herald Sun Au edition quotes, “The 2015 AFC Asian Cup-winning boss will announce that the Socceroos will host Tajikistan on Thursday, March 24, as exclusively revealed in the The Advertiser on November 19.”
“Postecoglou and SA tourism minister Leon Bignell will make the official announcement at 1.15pm today at Adelaide Oval,” writes the Herald Sun.
Everything seems to be happening at the Adelaide Oval. After hosting the first ever Day-Night Test in the history of Test Cricket, the venue has again been chosen for an international event. According to the Daily Mail Uk reports, Adelaide will host its first World Cup qualifier in 11 years.
Sources also quote that in an attempt “to widen the sport’s appeal beyond its heartlands of Sydney and Melbourne,” the Football Federation of Australia is taking the World Cup Qualifier to virgin destinations.
The Asian Champions has already played Bangladesh in Perth last September. Australia now lead their five member World Cup 2018 Qualifying group, with Tajikistan out of contention.
The last time the Adelaide Oval hosted an international match was almost five years ago. It was a friendly game between Australia and New Zealand.
The FIFA World Cup Qualifier is just one of the major events that Adelaide is set to host. Australia is one of the most popular destinations to host a major event like this. Fans will be thrilled to see more of International Football down-under.
