Two actors have taken on the role of Professor Charles Xavier in recent years. Patrick Stewart played an old version of Professor X. James McAvoy meanwhile played the younger version of the iconic mutant. An older Professor X will return to the big screen in Wolverine 3. However, will the movie actually feature a different Professor X? Has Stewart actually quit even before the film shoot began?
The actor has yet to formally quit the movie franchise. He did admit he might be nearing the end of his term as the big screen X-Men founder, though. He has played Professor X for over a decade and a half now, after all. However, he refused to speak with finality about his future with the series.
“I can’t say because I don’t know, but I would imagine this is probably the end of this franchise for me,” the actor said in an interview with ITV. “But the thing about science fiction and fantasy is that you can never, ever say it’s the end, it’s over.”
Stewart isn’t the only actor who might soon retire his X-Men role after Wolverine 3, though. Wolverine actor, Hugh Jackman, himself will give up his claws after this movie. Director Bryan Singer has yet to confirm who will replace the actor for future movies. He has earlier admitted it might prove “impossible” to find a new Wolverine.
Wolverine and Professor X are the only mutants to make an appearance in all previous X-Men films. Who can possibly replace Stewart as Professor X? Which actor can possibly take on the role of Wolverine as well as Jackman had all these years? No word as of yet to confirm this. Stay tuned for updates.
Can’t wait to see Stewart as Professor X again? You might have to wait a couple more months. Wolverine 3 won’t hit the big screen until March 3, 2017.
