Sir Patrick Stewart might once again join Hugh Jackman on screen for “Wolverine 3.” This, the British actor himself seems to have confirmed.
“Worst kept secret,” the actor wrote on Facebook and Twitter. He used the hashtags ”Wolverine 3″ and “Professor X” on both posts. Does this mean he is on board for the movie? Or was the actor merely poking fun at the rumours surrounding his character?
According to The Wrap, Stewart might not have been kidding. “X-Men: Apocalypse” producer Hutch Parker said the actor will appear in the next “Wolverine” movie. “I am [involved in ‘Wolverine 3’]…I will confirm that Patrick Stewart is part of the film.” Parker told Collider.
It has long been rumoured that Stewart will reprise his “X-Men” role soon. But producer Simon Kinberg neither confirmed nor denied this earlier. “I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say about that,” he was previously quoted as saying. “I will agree with you that [he] was rumoured to be a part of that film.” Will Professor X play a big role in the movie? Or will he just make a cameo? This remains to be seen.
Wolverine and Professor X are the only mutants that have appeared in all “X-Men” movies so far. It was earlier reported that Jackman will soon retire his role as Wolverine. “Wolverine 3” will be the last time he will be playing the iconic character on the big screen. On the other hand, “X-Men: Apocalypse” would be his second to the last outing as Wolverine. Meanwhile, Stewart would not be appearing in the upcoming “X-Men” movie. His character would instead be played by actor James McAvoy.
“Wolverine 3” is set to hit the big screen on March 3, 2017. Fans need not wait that long for “X-Men: Apocalypse,” though. The movie is slated to open in theatres on May 27th.
