Will Hugh Jackman be replaced by a female Wolverine in the upcoming “X-Men” movies? The actor previously confirmed that “Wolverine 3” will be the last time he plays the iconic mutant. Director Bryan Singer later claimed it might be impossible to find a replacement for Jackman. Will producers retire his role altogether? Will they instead introduce fans to a female Wolverine?
According to Fandango, Singer did confirm that “X-Force” will feature Jackman’s replacement. But it is not clear yet if Marvel would be allowed to use a female Wolverine in the next “X-Men” movie. “I have discussed that with the studio. I actually initially pitched the ‘X-Force’ and the female,” he explained.
The “female” Singer was talking about is X-23. Super Hero Hype earlier speculated that X-23 will appear in as early as “Wolverine 3.” X-23 or Laura Kinney was the mutant who took over for Wolverine after – spoiler alert! – Wolverine died in the comic books. Will her character function as Wolverine’s replacement from now on? This has yet to be confirmed. Stay tuned for updates.
Meanwhile, Singer admitted he “absolutely” sees a future of crossovers for the X-Men universe. He told Fandango he can see “the X-Men, X-Force, New Mutants and Deadpool alongside one another in…[a] darker Avengers-like “event” picture.”
“But it has to be done right,” the director said. “Anytime you throw all these characters together to hit a start date, it can make a lot of money. But it can also be a clusterf**k. To me, it has to be done with a lot of care. These things can get overwhelming, and if a character doesn’t belong in a movie, don’t use him. If the tone can still maintain itself, I’m all for it. What I’m not for is throwing a bunch of characters together and hoping it works.”
