Actor Hugh Jackman is set to retire as Wolverine soon. His two final appearances as the character will be in “Wolverine 3” and “X-Men: Apocalypse.” But will we see Wolverine again apart from these upcoming movies? Will he be introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Movie Pilot seems to think so. According to the film blog, the Russo brothers recently gushed about the iconic mutant. “First favorite character growing up was Spider-Man. Second was Wolverine. One of my most prized possessions is ‘Incredible Hulk’ [Issue] 181. Which was his first appearance,” Joe Russo told Collider.
His brother and frequent co-director, Anthony, agreed. “I would say Wolverine [is my favourite] as well…for all of the exciting reasons that we all gravitate to,” he said. It is clear that the “X-Men” character is a favourite of both brothers. Could this mean they are getting ready to let Wolverine join the MCU?
“X-Men” producer Simon Kinberg earlier said Jackman might be difficult to replace. “Honestly, I can’t imagine anybody else playing the part,” he said. Director Bryan Singer also agreed that Jackman might be “impossible” to recast. Would the Russo brothers be up for the challenge?
Kinberg does admit that, “I do think you would want to figure out how to tell more Wolverine stories…So either we would try to entice Hugh [Jackman] to come back and eat more chicken and work out…or we would have to figure out a creative way to move forward.” Will the Russo brothers find that “creative way” to move forward? Will they really attempt to bring their favourite character to the Marvel universe? No word as of yet to confirm this. Stay tuned for updates.
For 15 years, Jackman has appeared on the big screen as Wolverine in seven films. The actor earlier said “Wolverine 3” will be his last.
