The long wait for the release of George R.R. Martin’s “Winds of Winter” novel seems to be finally over.

According to Yibada, reports indicated that the much-awaited sixth installment of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series book may finally be released before 2016 ends.

GRRM’s fans have been waiting for nearly five years. Just recently, GRRM has chosen to release more than just a few chapters and snippets from “Winds of Winter.” He has hinted that the novel is complete, or at least is close to doing so, Yibada wrote.

However, instead of officially releasing the book, George R.R. Martin has intentionally teased his fans and readers a load of sneak peeks of several chapter snippets in the past. Vine Report noted that if consolidated, all the snippets will be enough for fans to create an e-book. This also made The Bit Bag to speculate that Martin could have probably finished writing the book.

The “Game of Thrones” author has been writing “A Song of Ice and Fire” series for two decades now. However, he only managed to only complete five parts of it. Due to his slow-paced writing, concerns about his age and health have plagued George R.R. Martin for quite some time now, especially when he got sick following a road trip to Baltimore.

Martin’s last book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series was “A Dance with Dragons,” which was published in July 27, 2011. He offered a glimpse of hope for “Winds of Winter” last year. The author canceled appearances to concentrate in finishing the book. This gave hope to fans that the novel could be out before the premiere of “Game of Thrones” Season 6. The author even sat down with his publishers to brainstorm how to release “Winds of Winter” before the sixth season of GOT airs to avoid spoilers, but it never came.  Months went by and there was no new book.

Next was a proposed Halloween of 2015 release date, but yet again the author said he needed an extension. Then a final deadline was set on March this year. Once again, George R.R. Martin failed to deliver the novel.

“You’re disappointed, and you’re not alone. My editors and publishers are disappointed, HBO is disappointed, my agents and foreign publishers and translators are disappointed … but no one could possibly be more disappointed than me,” George R.R. Martin said at the time.

“Game of Thrones” season 6 has concluded with a final episode entitled “The Winds of Winter.” Many are hoping that “Winds of Winter” novel will finally hit bookshelves before another chapter of GOT premieres.
