Sad news for waiting fans: there won’t be a Winds of Winter release this month. Contrary to rumors circulating on the web, author George R.R. Martin recently broke his silence and stated that speculations about the May launch are mere fabrications. In fact, the author said that he is not yet done writing the book as of the moment.

In his official blog, “Not a Blog,” Martin refuted claims about the novel’s rumored release date. “Complete crap, yes,” Martin said in reply to a commenter asking about the novel’s alleged release this month. “Who makes up these stories?”

However, the author did leave waiting fans with something to chew on while waiting for the sixth novel. The author posted an edited chapter from the upcoming book to further tease and somehow appease the fans. “You want to know what the Sand Snakes, Prince Doran, Areo Hotah, Ellaria Sand, Darkstar, and the rest will be up to in WINDS OF WINTER?” Martin said. “Quite a lot, actually. The sample will give you a taste. For the rest, you will need to wait.”

Martin has kept mum about the exact launch of “Winds of Winter,” leaving waiting fans in the dark.  However, more details will most likely be disclosed as Martin is said to be the guest of honor at this year’s Balticon in Baltimore, Maryland. The author has also confirmed that he will have his next reading at the event, Christian Daily noted.

All this waiting forced fans to come up with their own theories about the next novel’s plot. According to an iDigital Times report, one particular event that could take place in the upcoming novel is the Second Battle of the Blackwater.

As fans know, the first battle was won by the Lannisters against Stannis Baratheon. Rumors are rife that the second battle will still involve the Lannisters, but the victory won’t be theirs as Daenerys Targaryen, her three dragons and her horde of Dothraki, Unsullied and free people of Slaver’s Bay will leave “all of King’s Landing in flames.”

“The first Battle of the Blackwater may have oddly presaged the coming second one,” the report claimed. “Then as now, the invader is a champion of blood magic—though Stannis left his sorcerer at home, Daenerys’s magic is less overt, but entirely her own. Then as now, eldritch fire shall turn the tide. Last time, it swung the battle to the Lannisters and left Stannis’s fleet in ruins. This time, Daenerys’s dragons are the trump card.”
