Beyonce and Ed Sheeran shared a stage to sing “Drunk in Love” at the Global Citizen Festival at New York City’s Central Park.
This is not the first time Beyonce and Ed had a duet. In February, they took the stage together for a Stevie Wonder tribute. However, this is the first time they sang “Drunk in Love” together.
After performing hits like “XO,” “Halo” and “Crazy in Love,” Beyonce brought the British singer out to sing the song as a duet. Sheeran’s cover of Beyonce’s “Drunk In Love” has been a fan favorite since he released it last year.
Another highlight of the festival for Queen Bey was when she introduced First Lady Michelle Obama to the stage, Billboard reported.
Mrs. Obama praised the singer and said, “I am honored to follow a woman whom I admire and adore, someone who believes as passionately as I do, the boundless promise of girls worldwide. She got both feet on the ground and she’s burning it down…This girl is on fire.”
The Global Citizen Festival aims to bring awareness to social issues with the help of high-profile speakers and performers.
Meanwhile, Sheeran performed his hit songs including “A-Team” and “Lego House,” and other tracks from his most recent album such as “Photograph” and a mashup of his song “Don’t” with Chris Brown’s “Loyal” and Blackstreet’s “No Diggity.”
Sheeran then brought out Coldplay’s Chris Martin to have a duet of “Thinking Out Loud,” Entertainment Weekly reported.
Ed shared their photo on stage on his Instagram account and also tweeted after the show: “Thank you to Chris Martin for guesting tonight. Epic.”
Coldplay was the first group to bring out a surprise guest. The group called out Ariana Grande on stage to do a rendition of her song, “Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart” with the group, Billboard noted.
Beyonce’s husband Jay Z, “Scandal” actress Kerry Washington, actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Hugh Jackman, “Orange Is the New Black” star Laverne Cox, and actresses Gwyneth Paltrow and Katie Holmes were all present in the festival.
