The hit tandem of Filipino actor Alden Richards and Yaya Dub (Maine Mendoza) has been picked up by different media outlets around the globe. Now, Americans have decided to watch the Filipino noontime show “Eat Bulaga” to check out the what makes AlDub a worldwide phenomenon.
When the episode was shown, participants admitted that they don’t get what’s happening. Two girls commented that the episode has “a lot bright colors.” Meanwhile, one guy noticed that there was too much sound effects on the show. He said that the sound operator might be enjoying himself with all those effects.
They came across the word, “pabebe,” a colloquial term for someone “trying to look cute.” Some participants even tried to use the word in their conversations. They also did the “pabebe wave” (a beauty queen’s wave) where one girl compared it with the Queen of England’s wave. Another girl also decided to mimick Yaya Dub’s facial expressions.
Before the video ended, one guy defined AlDub as an “unlikely couple go through the early stage of romance.” He declared that Americans should drop their favorite TV shows because “Eat Bulaga is coming to the states.”

AlDub accidentally debuted on the noontime show on July 2015. The writers then created a “Kalye Serye” (a live TV show on the streets) for the tandem. Since then, the show has been receiving high ratings.
They had their first major event, “Sa Tamang Panahon” (At The Right Time), which was attended by more than 50,000 people at the world’s largest indoor arena. The event at the Philippine Arena became a trending topic on Twitter which got 39.5 million tweets. This has surpassed the recorded global tweets for the Super Bowl XLIX in February 2015.
Do you think there’s a chance that “Kalye Serye” will be shown in the United States?
