The season finale might have left a lot of viewers disappointed. But fans of Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon and the rest of the gang need not wait that long for their return to the small screen. AMC’s hit post-apocalyptic series will finally air in under two months. What does The Walking Dead Season 7 have in store for fans?

The show’s last season introduced a new Big Bad to the series: Negan. The final episode actually ended with him choosing which among the show’s main characters to kill off with his bat. The show did depict Negan as a brutal, no-nonsense villain. However, will his menace extend into the show’s seventh season? Will he completely dominate the series now that he’s finally part of it?

Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays the show’s newest villain, seems to think so. Or at least, he says the show will be his character’s domain from now on.

“The last six seasons have followed Rick,” Morgan said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “You’re going to find out in that time Negan has been running his own show [this whole time]. He has created his army of followers – and some are probably reluctant followers, and if they’re reluctant followers he has a way to deal with that as well. We’ll find out how Negan has come to be who he is. We’re going to get some backstory very quickly on how the Saviors operate and how Negan operates.”

Negan’s brutal punishments to his “reluctant followers” won’t be the only thing fans can look forward to next season, though. The show’s newest star also hinted that season 7 might just delve into his origin story. Producers have actually shown a glimpse of Negan’s home base, the Sanctuary, in the show’s Comic Con trailer this year.

Showrunner Scott Gimple previously described the Sanctuary as “a pretty epic” location that is similar to how it appeared in the original comic book.
