Fans have been wondering who makes it through the next season of “The Walking Dead” for months now. Negan does seem ruthless. But will the show’s new Big Bad really spare the life of the group’s youngest member, Carl? Will Rick’s son really survive their run-in with Negan’s baseball bat Lucille?

The show’s cast and producers have all gone through great lengths to hide the identity of Negan’s first onscreen kill. However, rumors suggest that Carl just might survive. He might even get a girlfriend next season. Or at least, the show will introduce a character who could very well be Carl’s new lady love.

According to TV Line, two new characters will join the cast by the end of Episode 6. Neither of them sounds like anyone from the comic book series. One of them, Jennie, is around the same age as Carl.

TV Line’s source, Jon Ausiello, described Jennie as “a sunny side up kinda teenager — who sounds a lot like Beth 2.0, who has a kind, world-weary toughness.” Ausiello hinted that she could pair up with Rick’s son

Ausiello hinted that she could pair up with Rick’s son next season. However, he did not confirm if Jennie will indeed be Carl’s next girlfriend.

Meanwhile, the AMC hit will also introduce Naomi next season. The TV writer described her as a “grandmotherly type who… is now willing to do whatever it takes not to have to bury any more.”

Producer Greg Nicotero recently sat down with IGN to talk about the show’s next season. “The main thing about Season 7 is establishing that the world isn’t what everybody thinks it is,” he explained.

Nicotero also tells fans to expect many changes to happen with Carl’s father soon.  “At the end of Season 6, Rick was so confident. ‘We’re just going to knock out that outpost, we’re going to [expletive] these guys up…’ and it ends with him going, ‘Heh, oh well, I had no idea. What I perceived as the world is not even close to what the reality of the world is,'” he said. “Negan’s also there to show him that.”

“The Walking Dead” Season 7 will premiere on AMC this October.
