Vikings Season 5 has been making quite a buzz online months before it even airs, which only proves just how much fans have been waiting for the upcoming continuation of the hit historical drama. What should we expect to see in Vikings Season 5?
Here is a list of things you can root for!
End of Rollo’s Era?
It’s been highly speculated that Clive Standen is not returning to Vikings Season 5. He is quitting the series for another upcoming TV show. Standen plays Ragnar’s brother Rollo – now Robert – a French king. However, the actor himself later confirmed he is very much on the show. He conveyed he won’t appear on the first few episodes of Season 5 but he will be there in the rest of the episodes until someone finally kills off his Rollo character. Is this indicative that Rollo’s era will end soon?
The story will go on without Ragnar Lodbrok
Previously, it was touted that Travis Fimmel’s Ragnar Lodbrok would meet his last in the current season of this historical series. The death news of this fearless monarch has been confirmed by Christian Daily. He might get killed by King Ælla (Aelle) of Northumbria or have a natural death. Perhaps this indicate that the Vikings would power through with Ragnar’s heirs taking center stage.
Major highlight on Ivar the Boneless
After the death of Ragnar Lodbrok, Ivar the Boneless might come into power. How? Since Bjorn heads to conquer the Mediterranean and the rest of Lodbrok’s offspring are not worthy to be Ragnar’s successor, Ivar the Boneless is the only natural choice to ascend the throne and head Kattegat, according to Inquisitr. He might also be chosen on the basis of his wisdom, cunning and mastery of strategy. Of course this makes sense and goes perfectly in line with the Vikings’ history. If Ivar the Boneless will be the first to claim the throne, then we can expect to see more of him in the upcoming episodes of Vikings.
Season 5 to dig deeper into Alfred the Great’s story
To date, over in England, we have seen the major focus was on Kings Ecbert and Ælla (Aelle). However, the spoilers for Vikings Season 5 reveal that this time, the focus will be shifted to ‘Alfred the Great’- the illegitimate son of Princess Judith and Athelstan. According to relevant sources, it’s been anticipated that Jonathan Rhys Meyers will be seen playing the role. He is the one who will, ultimately, defend England from Viking invasion. Sounds thought provoking!
Vikings Season 5 is returning on The History Channel on November 30 at 9 p.m. EST. For more updates, stay tuned!
