The end of “The Vampire Diaries” seems to be near. Actor Ian Somerhalder even said season 8 will be the last for the once hit series. Will the show’s former star Nina Dobrev return in time for the series finale?
According to Hollywood Life, Dobrev’s character Elena Gilbert might just return to Mystic Falls in the reported final season. ““When the show ends, Nina will be a part of it [in] some way shape or form…At this very moment, it is expected that Nina will [return],” a source told Hollywood Life. “There is still tons of time to figure it all out and deal with proper scheduling. But it is going to be a less is more type of situation to finish her story.”
Dobrev will reportedly only make “a very limited” appearance on the show. The actress, the source said, might only appear in “at most” two episodes. This info has yet to be confirmed. However, the gossip news site said their source is “10,000 percent” sure that Dobrev will return.
Dobrev earlier left the show to focus on other projects. Her character, Elena, was shown to have fallen into a coma-like sleep by the end of Season 6. Elena will only wake up if another character, Bonnie Bennett, dies. And according to US Weekly, Bonnie might die soon. “Season 8 will be my last season,” Kat Graham, who plays Bonnie on the show, confirmed with US Weekly. The report did not specify if Bonnie will indeed die. But her exit might just allow Elena to come back to life in time for the finale. Will Nina Dobrev return next season? Stay tuned for updates.
Meanwhile, Somerhalder, who plays Damon, earlier confirmed that the show’s next season will be its last. “We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice,” he said.
