Tomorrow will bring answers to how the Salvatore brothers will manage to reach Stefan’s body, but in the meantime statements from the “Vampire Diaries” team have put the show’s fate under question.
According to report on TV Line, Ian Somerhalder may have let slip details about Season 8 being the last. He shocked fans at the recent WalkerStalkerCon, where he said:
“We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice.”
But when you think about it and if you have been following the show, it only seems like the most natural thing to do given the current trajectory of “Vampire Diaries” season 7. Also as Kat Graham (Bonnie Bennett) recently told US Weekly, that season 8 will be her last, even if the show is renewed for season 9.
However, before Somerhalder made the comment, showrunner Julie Plec had a different take on the matter. In an interview with TV Line (given before Somerhalder revealed its the”last season”), she shared:
“I’m going to be dead honest with you: I was so happy to get Season 8 that even the idea of Season 9 is so far away — I haven’t even started thinking about it. I know Kat made her announcement; I wish her everything she wants, and she can stay as long as she wants.”
“Every time we enter a new season, we think, ‘There’s no more story to tell. We’re done.’ And then when we start talking about it and we realize, ‘Oh, great, we’ve still got a lot of gas in the tank.’ Once we get into breaking Season 8, which will start in May, we’ll really get a sense of where we are with these characters and with this world. How much do we still have left in the show? If we feel strongly that we need to keep going, we’ll advocate for that; if we feel like there’s nothing else we can do, then I might make a call up to the bosses. We won’t know until we really start talking about it creatively.”
So, it looks like all hope isn’t lost for those “Vampire Diaries” fans who would want the show to return season after season. Would you like to see a season 9 happening or think season 8 will be enough to wrap things up? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
