The much-awaited reunion of Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore could possibly happen in “Vampire Diaries” season 8.
According to Parent Herald, Elena’s return from deep sleep is almost certain after Nina Dobrev, who played Elena, and “Vampire Diaries” executive producer Julie Plec have reached an agreement.
In the season 7 finale, Damon entered a vault where he saw a shadow. He was heard uttering “Elena?” Seventeen reported that Elena’s voiceover was actually a new recording made by Dobrev herself. Plec revealed to TV Line that she reached out and asked Dobrev is she wants to come in and do the recording. The executive producer added that the actress opted to do the recording despite being told that a TVD team could just put together a bunch of snippets from previous episodes to make her cameo scene.
“I reached out and said, ‘We can either cobble it together from a bunch of episodes, or you can come in and see everybody and do ADR.’ She chose to do it in person, which was great because it was a nice little personal Nina visit,” Plec said.
Plec added that she and Dobrev have also reached an agreement. “It’s what she and I kind of agreed on when she decided to move on, and it’s what I’ve got in my head. Obviously, things can change throughout time, if the show goes on longer than we expect it to, or if we all collectively decide it would be fun to bring her back earlier, and she wanted to. But in my opinion, she was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she’s doing a great job of achieving that. So I’m sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end,” Plec said.
CDL added that “Vampire Diaries” could extend to season 9 considering the recent development. However, Ian Somerhalder, who played Damon, earlier hinted that season 8 could be his last appearance. No premiere date has been announced for “Vampire Diaries” season 8.
