Definitely not a good news for “The Vampire Diaries” fans, particularly of Matt Donovan.
The character’s absence in the flash forward of the series sparked speculation that the ex-boyfriend of Elena Gilbert and Caroline Forbes will die in the second half of season seven.
Entertainment Weekly quoted executive producer Caroline Dries teasing, “We haven’t seen [Matt in a flash forward]. And I don’t know if that’s a good thing.”
According to Melty, the upcoming season of TVD will feature two different storylines – the present day and three years into the future – which means there are lots of flash forward scenes.
“The Vampire Diaries” co-creator Julie Plec revealed to Variety some details about what viewers could expect this season.
Plec said the winter season will feature Damon’s experiences as a result of being trapped in the Phoenix Stone. However, she refused to reveal the identity of the woman who was seen chasing Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) in the flash forward at the beginning of the season.
“By the time we get to end of February, we’ll have our answers,” said Plec.
There were speculations that new villainous character Rayna could be the one hunting the Salvatore brothers.
The new vampire hunter character, which will be played by Leslie-Anne Huff, will be introduced this season and there have been rumors that Rayna may be related to Elena Gilbert.
Seventeen also claimed that it is possible that Rayna have ties with Elena. In the past, Elena had a doppelganger named Katherine.
However, co-executive producer Caroline Dries dismissed rumors that they cast Huff because of her physical resemblance to Nina Dobrev, who portrayed Elena.
“That’s definitely just a coincidence. We looked at a lot of actors, and I was like, ‘I think she looks exactly like Nina.’ I was convinced otherwise. I actually haven’t met her yet in person, though, and everyone says she doesn’t look like her in person,” Dries told TV Line.
“The Vampire Diaries” season 7 is set to premiere on Jan. 29 on CW.
