Showrunner Julie Plec is fueling rumours of a Klaus and Caroline reunion in the upcoming crossover between “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals”.

“[In] next week’s episodes, in which Stefan makes his way to New Orleans in the present, and Caroline hits up magic-free zone St. James Infirmary in the flash-forward. You can expect some great scenes reminiscent of season 3 Klaus and Stefan moments. A surprising generosity from one Klaus Mikaelson,” Plec wrote in her latest blog on Entertainment Weekly.

She added, “An awkward moment where Stefan realizes he’s not sure if Klaus knows he and Caroline are a couple and a really beautiful phone call between Klaus and Caroline. Also, a little Easter Egg surprise that will make you ask some big questions about how The Originals will end their season.”

With the two shows both heading to Fridays for the rest of the season, the move of having a crossover is more plausible than ever and the fans are looking forward to a Klaus and Caroline reunion.

BuddyTV reports that CW president Mark Pedowitz said the crossover won’t be on a scale like the annual “Arrow” and “The Flash” crossover but it does sound bigger than anything the sister series have done together before now.

The CW crossover was first announced by the network’s president Mark Pedowitz at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, Calif. at the start of 2016.

Shortly after the crossover was announced, Variety spoke with Plec about the storyline where the creator said, “I’ve wanted to do this for a really long time and find a way to do it that didn’t feel like we were jamming story for the sake of cross-pollinating the shows.”

Late January, the first footage from the upcoming crossover was out courtesy of “The Vampire Diaries” Twitter page.

The short clip shows Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) drinking where Klaus is welcoming his “old friend” to New Orleans, where the crossover is set.
