Fans who have been holding on to the promise that, somewhere down the road, a crossover between “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” will happen may be getting a late Christmas present.
It is a very big present indeed because it has been officially announced that a crossover between the two beloved The CW shows is happening this year.
In a report by Entertainment Weekly, CW boss Mark Pedowitz made the confirmation on Sunday at the press tour for the Television Critics Association. The executive was quoted by EW in saying:
“You will see, organically, a crossover this year. Not of the size and scope of we do for “Arrow” and “Flash”. They have to make sense [story-wise]. If they don’t make sense story-wise, don’t do it, don’t force it — the audience can tell.”
As to how the “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” crossover will differ in size and scope from that of “Arrow” and “Flash” remains to be seen. However, an interview by Variety with show creator Julie Plec involves some revealing details about the two shows crossing paths. Plec was quoted by the magazine as follows:
“Stefan will go to New Orleans in a ‘Vampire Diaries’ episode and then he will remain in New Orleans in ‘The Originals’ to help Klaus (Joseph Morgan) deal with a problem that is super specific to Stefan’s survival.”
This statement says a lot, considering that both shows left on a note of uncertainty during their respective mid-season finales.
This offers insights as to how each story progresses: a) It does not take long for Stefan to make it ouf of the Phoenix stone and b) An event–perhaps Cami being resurrected?–may make Klaus’ life better which will push him to become more willing to help a brother out.
TV Line reports that the crossover will happen in the 14th episodes of both shows, so fans may have to wait a little longer for the highly-anticipated crossover event.
Nevertheless, what is a few months if it means that the Salvatores and Mikaelsons will finally meet again–and maybe add Caroline in the mix?
“The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 and “The Originals” Season 2 will move to Fridays when both shows return on January 29 on The CW.
