Former US President Bill Clinton believes that billionaire businessman Donald Trump could win the Republican nomination for Presidency.
In an interview, CNN‘s Fareed Zakaria asked the former President what he thinks about Donald Trump. Clinton replied, “He’s a master brander. And when you’ve got a lot of people running, and people are trying to make distinctions, being able to put a personal stamp on it so people identify with who you are, it counts for something, certainly in the beginning.”
When asked if Trump could become the Republicans’ nominee, Clinton replied with, “I think so.”
He thinks that Trump also appealed to the members of the working class by giving them economic reasons to vote for him such as “restricting immigration and limiting Chinese imports”, as mentioned by The Daily Mail.
If Trump is to be the Republican nominee, he could then be the opponent of his wife, Hillary Clinton, who’s vying to be the Democratic Party’s nominee.
However, the former President thinks that he is “not the best pundit anymore” as he has been out of politics for a long time. He doesn’t seem to be supporting Trump as well, as the former President expressed his support for his wife in the 2016 Presidential Elections.
“I’ll do what I can to help her. But I’m not the best pundit anymore. I don’t have a good feel for this. All I know is what I’ve heard from the country.”
Former President Clinton told Zakaria his thoughts on who he thinks should lead the country.
“I think the country needs somebody who can give us broadly shared prosperity, help families and kids, try to reduce the impact of all this huge anonymous money in our political system. And in a world full of challenges, keep big, bad things from happening and make as many good things happen as possible.”
