“Once Upon a Time” season 5 is yet to return on air to complete its remaining episodes for the fifth season but is it doomed for cancellation?
A quick look at Twitter’s worldwide trends on the night of February 18 shows that a cancellation may be the case. In erratic time intervals, the keywords ABC SAVE OUAT kept making it to the top trends in the social media website. For the unfamiliar, this may not make sense but fans of the show seeing the keywords for the first time would be alarmed.
ABC is the network that hosts the show, while OUAT is the shortened version and acronym for the series. Place the word “save” in the mix and one would think about cancellation.
However, if one would go into detail and click on the keyword to know what the fuss is all about, it appears that the trend is a lament by the fans to save “Once Upon a Time”, not from cancellation, but from Captain Hook/Killian Jones’ (Colin O’Donoghue) dragging storyline.
A common sentiment in some of the tweets is that “Once Upon a Time” became more focused on Hook and the Captain Swan love story rather than other fairy tale characters and the Charmings. Check out the tweets below.
This Twitter sentiment may have been brought about by the recent news that “Once Upon a Time” is bringing another pirate on the show.
According to a report by TV Line, the show has cast Costas Mandaylor as Captain Silver, a pirate who had a connection to Hook at some point in the past.
ET Online was the first to report this development, and described the Captain Silver character as a “ship-loving pirate with a stormy past.”
For now not much is known about who he really is, but fans can find out when “Once Upon a Time” season 5 returns with its 100th episode on March 6 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
