Video games, no matter how great, don’t always translate into great movies. Sure, movies and video games both deal with motion pictures. But past movie adaptations of video games had not all been successful. Something always ends up feeling off. Things don’t always feel right.
That never stopped producers from making video game movies, though. This year’s roster of video game movies include the Uncharted adaptation. Fans of the game series have all been waiting for this film for a while now. But will the movie actually spoil the gameplay for Uncharted 5?
The Uncharted series developer, Naughty Dog, has repeatedly denied rumors that an Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End follow-up’s actually in the works. In spite of this, fans continue to hope to see Nathan Drake’s story continued somehow. Naughty Dog won’t likely change their mind, though. So, fans’ best bet right now is to just wait for the upcoming movie adaptation.
Fans need not worry about things getting lost in translation with this project, though. According to Screen Rant, the film’s writer, Joe Carnahan, won’t rest until he gets everything in the movie down pat. “I want to get with [Naughty Dog and] make sure we line things up creatively on Uncharted. Hugely important to me. Gotta make creators happy,” he said in a tweet.
The studio optioned the Uncharted movie way back in 2009. But the project was somehow stalled. Producers later hired Carnahan to come up with a whole new take for the movie.
Will Naughty Dog ever relent and come out with an Uncharted 5 game? Could Carnahan even help out writing the story arc for the next game? No word as of yet to confirm this. Stay tuned for updates. The Uncharted movie, meanwhile, will hit theaters on June 30, 2017.
Aside from this game, another game that will get the Hollywood treatment soon’s Assassin’s Creed, which will premiere in December.
