As reported on The Guardian, the sighting caused panic to residents. Some called law enforcement agencies to ask for information about what they saw. Videos of the occurrence and theories related to aliens were also posted on social media.

A resident named Kevin Stack witnessed the bright light in the sky while he was walking in Northeastern Los Angeles with his son.

“It intensified then shot across the dark sky, leaving a green trail. Then it fizzled and appeared like a dying dot on an old television screen,” said Stack. His five-year-old son, Blackstone, declared that it was an alien.

Even California State Senator Mike McGuire was alarmed by what he saw. The Democrat from Healdsburg wrote on Facebook, “Anybody else see the big white ball of light in the sky?”

However, ABC 30 reported that the bright light was not a UFO sighting. The light was apparently from an unarmed missile from the Navy Submarine.

Navy Spokesman Commander Ryan Perry said in a statement that the Navy Strategic Systems Programs had a missile test off the coast from USS Kentucky. The USS Kentucky was a “ballistic missile submarine.”

According to CNN, the statement read “The tests were part of a scheduled, ongoing system evaluation test. Launches are conducted on a frequent, recurring basis to ensure the continued reliability of the system. Each test activity provides valuable information about our systems, thus contributing to assurance in our capabilities.”

The missile test was conducted in the Pacific Test Range. Tests are reported to continue until November 12.

With that, the Los Angeles International Airport released a statement about the missile tests. The airport is said to create “traffic route limitations” and to “temporarily deviate” from such military tests at sea.
