No one is unbeatable. Even the Best. That was surely proved on Sunday night after Holly Holm shocked the World, beating Ronda Rousey to win the women’s Bantamweight title at UFC 193 in Melbourne.
The Mixed Martial Arts superstar, Ronda Rousey, looked all set to defend her women’s bantamweight title against unbeaten former pro boxing champion Holly Holm in the main event of UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia, as per SB Nation.
“We figured the pressure was coming,” Holm said after the belt was placed around her waist. “I have to say everything we worked on presented itself in the fight. Every route she tried to get,” the Guardian quoted her as saying.
The “Preacher’s Daughter” did everything right from the start and knocked out favored Rousey at 0:59 of second round. Holm landed 29 of 38 significant strikes to the head in a seismic upset win, as per Guardian reports.
Before the match Holm had talked about fighting Ronda Rousey at UFC 193, notes MMA Fighting. She said, “I like that people are still doubting me.” She was very keen on taking the opposition and believed that much would change if she won the fight against Rousey.
The Guardian wrote, “Holm who hugged a broken Rousey, a woman many felt was unbeatable, proving yet again there is no such thing in mixed martial arts.”
Before the UFC 193 clash, Ronda Rousey found herself in the middle of the controversy. Apparently, Australian politicians and child protection groups targeted the violent nature of the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and believed that minors should be banned from attending the UFC 193 this weekend.
A lot of things was going on before the match but ultimately MMA emerged the winner.
