Arsenal will host Barcelona in their Champions League campaign on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at the New Emirates stadium starting 7:45 pm GMT.
Arsenal will be looking to repeat their performance when the two sides met at the Emirates back in 2011. The gunners stunned the Catalonian side 2-1 which is regarded as one of the best performances till date. It is a tough ask for the home side to beat the European Champions in the both legs but Arsene Wenger will take encouragement from the 2011 match, notes Standard UK.
Arsenal boss, Wenger, was quoted as saying, “We suffered for a big part of the game, but we should be encouraged by that. We suffered in the first half but in the second we posed more danger.
“That should help us in our game this time, if we have uncomfortable moments we know in our mind we can still win.”
The hosts will also take inspiration from their match against Bayern Munich, last October. Barcelona are having a terrific run since last year and they look quite intimidating with a frontline attack which has Luiz Surez, Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Barcelona are up for the conquest to win the European Championship for the second time in a row. The only one team that achieved back-to-back European Championship title was AC Milan, nearly 26 years ago, notes ESPN.
Barcelona boss Luis Enrique is not taking Arsenal lightly. He was quoted as saying, “Arsenal will no doubt make things complicated and they have the quality to trouble us. It will be difficult, they [matches in the Champions League] all are.”
